Scripture: Philippians 2:8 NLT
“He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”
Testify:
Calling all married, soon to be married and those who desire marriage people. We get to serve one another in a ministry called marriage. In this ministry we have to actively die to oneself every day in order to serve our covenant partners. Whether it’s being considerate, our desires, or putting our spouse first. It’s a ministry because you have to continually give up and lay down your one-track mind about yourself for someone else. Jesus shows us how it’s done in this scripture which can also reflect in our marriages, friendships, and singleness. Not particularly in death but it can represent laying down one’s desires for the resurrection of a whole ministry.
Edify:
This verse is referring to Jesus and how he did what God sent him to do and not what he had the ability to do. He gave up his abilities to get off the cross and to call a legend of angels and submitted to a criminal’s death. Isn’t it hard to give up our desires for someone else all the time? Yet Christ became our ultimate example of this by giving of himself. You might ask, why am I always the one dying? Why am I always making the sacrifice. Well Christ died!!!! Therefore, your sacrifice is not that bad. If we want to thrive for a great marriage, you have to take turns dying. A successful marriage means humbling ourselves like Christ. Who’s ready for the task?
Apply:
Lord, strengthen my discernment to know who I am to serve. Give me wisdom and knowledge for whom I am to make covenant with. Block whom ever I’m not. I only want to align with who you have for my life, and I won’t be in fear to whom I’m supposed to serve. I trust and obey every word that you say. In Jesus name Amen.
