JUST BE STILL
Scripture: Exodus 14:14 (NIV) —
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Testify:
Sometimes I get impatient and want to tackle challenges on my own, especially in different seasons of my life. One example is my past relationship, which was very toxic. It put me in situations where I felt like I had to act out of character. It didn’t matter how my reactions presented themselves, I was always the one looking and feeling crazy at the end. Now, please understand, my reactions felt good for the quick moment that it lasted, but the after affect was the difficult part to get past. Over time, I learned that not everything requires a reaction — that reacting impulsively was often a trap from the enemy, trying to get me to act in ways that would invite judgment and shame. I’ll admit, I’m not perfect and still have work to do, but God has brought me a long way from where I used to be. I’m learning to let Him fight my battles.
Edify:
In Exodus 14, the Israelites were terrified when they saw the Egyptians chasing after them. They questioned Moses and doubted God’s plan, thinking they were brought to the desert to die. What they didn’t realize was that God was already working on their behalf — fighting for them. He made it hard for the Egyptians to reach them and eventually parted the Red Sea so the Israelites could cross on dry land. The same sea that saved them destroyed their enemies. The Israelite’s used no weapons and did not fight on their own behalf. Even if they tried, they would not have been successful. God fought their battle while they remained still. Probably the hardest thing to do, was to remain still. Not just physically still, but still in emotion, still in mind, still spirit and in soul. This stillness shows that you trust in God. Even when things look hopeless, we walk by faith, not by sight.
Apply:
No matter how difficult the battle may seem, when we put our trust in the Lord, He will protect us, guide us, and fight for us. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is to simply be still — and let God fight for you.
