Scripture: Ecclesiastes 5:6 (NKJV)
Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger of God that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your excuse and destroy the work of your hands?
Testify:
There were times in my life where I would ask people to do something for me, and they would promise to do it on a certain day and time. When the day came, they would give me an excuse as to why they can’t do what they originally promised. I would have feelings of frustration and anger because they promised and then didn’t make good on their word. This is how God feels when we don’t follow through on a promise we made to him.
Edify:
We as children of God put a lot of trust and faith in God’s word. When we ask God for something we ask according to his word. When we pray, we pray God’s word. It is our expectation that God does what he says he will do. We are constantly reminding God what he says in his word. So, if we as children of God who are striving to be more like him, then shouldn’t he be able to take us at our word. When we don’t follow through on a promise we make to God, we are committing a sin against God. If we are holding God accountable for his word, and we are striving to be more like him, then God should be able to hold us accountable to what we say. This scripture reminds us to not let our mouths cause our flesh to sin. Stop giving excuses for what we chose not to honor, and most of all don’t make God get so angry with our excuses that he destroys what we have already built with our hands. If we say it, do it.

If you are not 100 percent certain that you can fulfil a promise to God, then it is best that you Shut Up and keep quiet. Allow God to continue to work on you until you are ready. You don’t want to anger God with a broken promise.
