Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:7 NIV
“A time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,”
Testify:
Often times I think back to the person I use to be compared to the person I am becoming. In the past my mouth has been reckless and unbeknownst to me I have hurt feelings unintentionally. I am learning to watch what I say because everyone may not take it as a joke, and it could tear others down leaving me with a guilty conscience. I have also learned to be silent not everything needs to be vocalized. I also learned that if you are silent, you could learn and resolved conflict. Silence can keep you out of trouble and aways keep you from people, places and things that can cause you more grief.
Edify:
This scripture starts off with talking about time. There is a time for everything. There is a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to shut up and a time to speak. In our fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the urge to speak, share opinions, or make jokes without fully considering the impact of our words. However, there is profound wisdom in the art of listening. When we take the time to sit in silence and genuinely listen to others, we open ourselves up to understanding their perspectives, feelings, and experiences. This practice not only fosters empathy but also helps us respond in a way that is thoughtful and constructive.
Apply:
Set a personal goal to speak less and listen more in the next few conversations. Observe the dynamics that change as you implement this practice. Over time, you will likely find that choosing silence allows for deeper connections and fosters a more peaceful environment, both for you and those around you. Embracing these principles can transform your communication style and contribute to your ongoing growth.
