Scripture: John 16:7 NLT
But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.
Testify:
I remember being a young “church” girl and attending revivals. Being totally transparent, in those days, revivals got on my nerves. Any other time, I couldn’t be out late on a school night, now all of sudden, I can attend a revival all week until the wee hours. To me, it was just another “drawn out” church service that my grandmother made me go to. One time, my choir even had to sing the entire week of the revival.
Edify:
In this verse, Jesus is explaining to the believers the reason for him departing. He lets them know that they will not be alone. The Advocate that he is speaking of is the comforter, also known as the Holy Spirit. For them to fully lean on and experience the Holy Spirit, other things need to be removed. One of the definitions of revival states” making alive again, those who have been alive but have fallen into what is called a cold, or dead state”. To be revived, we need to face some truths and kill whatever old things have been festering and get into a healthy state where we can produce new life.
Apply:
Let’s begin to move out of our comfort zones and face some truths. What “old thing” will you commit to letting go of today, so that you can be revived? Getting into a posture of quiet and focusing on the holy spirit will assist in renewal and revival. The Holy Spirit will move us into a space of maturity to receive all the blessings that God has planned for us. Once we release dead things, rely on the Holy Spirit, and move forward with purpose, our entire being will be revived.
