Scripture: Psalm 80:18 NLT
“Then we will never abandon you again. Revive us so we can call on your name once more. “
Testify:
Turning our back on God when things don’t go our way is never the answer. The second we think we’re teaching God a lesson by not remaining faithful to him, he makes an example out of us by showing us how much we do in fact need him. Sometimes things don’t go our way for a reason. In the moment it may feel like God doesn’t love us or is not hearing our cries for help. A few weeks ago, my pastor preached a sermon about how God sometimes puts us in difficult situations because he knows we have just what it takes to conquer that battle.
Edify:
In this scripture, Asaph, an appointed Levitical worship leader is speaking on behalf of the whole nation asking God for revival and restoration. He’s making a promise to God that they will remain faithful and never forsake him again if he restores their fortune. Sometimes we try to bargain with God and tell him that if he does what we are asking, we will then continue to remain faithful to him. Unfortunately, that’s not how God works. He does not do things on our time neither does he take our bribes. I had to learn from past experiences that he does not always act on command and show up when I may want him to. However, our God is always on time and always does his thing when necessary.
Apply:
As long as we remain faithful servants of God and continue to worship him despite the tough times we’re experiencing, he is always going to show up in the end, no bribes or gimmicks needed.
