Tag Your It

Scripture:   Exodus 17:12 NLT

Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up.  So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on.   Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands.  So his hands held steady until sunset.

Testify:

Growing up as an only child, I never appreciated being alone. I always wanted a brother or sister who would make my house loud—loud with laughter, arguments, games, and fun. I am grateful that my grandmother had a lot of kids, and her kids had kids, which gave me cousins that I consider my cousin-brothers and cousin-sisters. My two main cousins were Mike and Eric, and believe it or not, wrestling was one of our favorite pastimes. I loved to watch the tag team matches because having two was always better. When one got beat down or fatigued, they would tag in their partner. The partner would come in with new energy and a fire that was dwindling in the other guy. This made me think about our lives.  How many times have we failed to tag someone in during our fatigue or beatdown? How often do we miss the importance of a partner, community, or Jesus himself?

Edify:

This scripture describes the importance of having someone’s back. The Israelites were fighting the Amalek army. Joshua and the army were out there fighting, and Moses was watching. As long as Moses kept his hands raised, they would win. Whenever his arms got tired and he put them down, the Amalek army would win. Moses, however, had a crew with him that understood the importance of tagging someone in. The scripture says that when Moses got tired, they sat him on a rock, and Aaron and Hur held his arms up. Moses couldn’t do it by himself. Moses needed help. Therefore, his two brothers in Christ held him up. After all, a threefold cord is not easily broken. Together they defeated the enemy. Together they overcame. Together they got the job done. What am I saying to us? Don’t be afraid to tag somebody in for the win.

Apply:

These Teatime topics have been on point. They have stretched us to know how to shut up, pull up, speak up, and now we're about to play tag. We cannot do life by ourselves; we need each other. In the words of Hezekiah Walker, “I need you to survive,” but in the voice of Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock, “It takes two to make a thing go right.” Come with us this month as we play Tag—You're It.
