He Knows What He’s Doing
Scripture: Psalms 78:70-71 NLT
He chose his servant David, calling him from the sheep pens. He took David from tending the ewes and lambs and made him the shepherd of Jacob’s descendants. God’s own people, Israel.
Testify:
Have you ever been called or chosen to do a job that was bigger than your capabilities? Something like winning the lottery—you simply showed up and bought into what was being sold. I remember when I realized that I was chosen. The funny part about it was, I was too young to even comprehend. I was a zealous 18-year-old on a big campus. I was too small to be singled out, but I was. I can remember the targets that were on my back, the attacks that I endured. I can even recall the hurt, the pain, and the anguish that was produced from people that I trusted and looked up to. “It’s not my fault!” I would say. “I didn’t ask for this!” I would cry out. I wasn’t trying to be, but I thank God that He made me who I was.
Edify:
If there is one biblical character that understands what I was going through, it was David. David, the youngest of eight brothers, was simply doing what his father told him to do—tend to the sheep. He wasn’t trying to jockey for a position, because he probably thought that his older brothers would get it, hands down. So, he did his job and did it well. He stayed out of the way and kept out of sight. Until Samuel showed up. The scripture in Psalms 78 says that David—from the wrong tribe (to some haters) and the wrong bloodline—was called from the sheep pen. God, in His infinite wisdom, chose the shepherd boy to skillfully handle His children. He tagged him in despite his upbringing, his age, his social status, or his bank account. He saw his heart and tagged it for life. So, what’s your excuse? So what if you don’t make enough? Our Father is rich with houses and land. So what if you keep messing up? Our Father said He is drawn to a broken spirit and contrite heart. Stop making excuses and TAG IN!
