Be The Person You Wish You Had
Scripture: Galatians 6:2 (NIV)
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Testify:
I’m learning the importance of helping others, especially when they fall short or struggle. I was listening to a sermon not too long ago, where the pastor preached about being the person you wish you had. That really changed my perspective. In the past, I used to treat people based on how they treated me, but now I’m learning to respond differently—to be the person I once needed in my life, regardless of how others may treat me or what they’ve done to me in the past. I’m growing out of that “tit-for-tat” mindset and choosing, instead, to lead with grace, understanding, and compassion.
Edify:
I didn’t know that there was a scripture that was leading me to change my behaviors towards people. This scripture reminded me that God calls me—and you—to carry each other’s burdens, to help lift the weight that someone else is carrying. The load is lighter when two people carry it. It’s bearable when we do it together. The target is not as visible when there is more than one of us out there. The scripture goes on to say that when we do this, we reflect the love and compassion of Christ. Supporting others in their time of need is one of the purest ways to live out His law. Who are you helping today? Who are you encouraging? Who’s leaning on you for strength? If you answer “no one,” you are not fulfilling the laws of Christ. That is what this month is about—allowing others to tag you in.
Apply:
If the burden becomes too heavy, it’s okay to pass the baton to someone else. God never meant for us to carry everything alone. Sometimes, helping one another and sharing the load is how we all make it through. Be the person you wish you had.
