Preach The Word
Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:2
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
Testify:
It’s time to tell them what thus says the Lord! After church last week, we began to discuss how we have had chances to tell people about the goodness of Jesus. Immediately, we then began thinking about how people would accept us. Will they receive what we are saying? Will what we say be enough to change their life? This conversation made me think of the times when I should’ve said something to someone but didn’t. I’ve allowed opportunity to pass me by because I was too busy wondering if I could hold their attention. Instead of my focus being on the soul and the heart of the person, I was too busy thinking about what and how I was going to say it.
Edify:
2 Timothy 4 states that the time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine because of their own lusts. We can’t let that stop us; we have to do it, no matter the season. Nothing in the Word says that it’ll be easy to preach. The Word says, “Go out to the highways and byways to compel the people.” At times, for me, it can be a challenge when meeting people who don’t believe, and I have to get out of my own way and allow the Holy Spirit to guide me through the conversation in love. We are encouraged to minister the Word—when you want to and when you don’t want to, when it’s popular and when it’s not. We all have a job to do, reprove, rebuke, and exhort people to Christ. Tag someone to join you in this walk for Christ.
Apply:
2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Start by building your confidence in the Word of God, knowing that as you do what’s required of you, God will do the rest. Instead of reminding yourself of the things you didn’t do right, stay focused on the work of God. He doesn’t expect us to do it perfectly, but with confidence and assurance that He will provide all we need in and through Him to save lost souls.
