We Are Not Ashamed
Scripture: Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Testify:
I've seen this explosive power in my family. See, I don’t come from a typical family of bible toting, foot-stomping believers. I come from an adulterous, fornicating, beer-drinking, drug-using family. My daddy rests his soul; was never faithful to my mom. He would work Monday through Friday, then leave and be gone until Sunday. I was a very angry little girl. I always would fight and speak up for myself, defending myself only because in my house, the women, my mom and sisters, had to always fight and defend themselves. Later in life, I got married, eventually got saved, called home, and again I had to speak up. This time, it wasn’t to defend me; it was to defend my Christianity to my dad. Later in my life, he embraced me, and the God I served, and I believe it’s because I was not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus, I had to speak up for the one who delivered me.
Edify:
This scripture is the heart and the core of the book of Romans. Paul says I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are a lot of people who are ashamed of this gospel; they are ashamed of being mocked for being a follower of Christ. Paul says he’s not ashamed of that. Paul knew the Gospel is the power of God through salvation and that everyone needs the gospel, every human being regardless of their race, status, and class. Everyone needs the gospel of Jesus; it comes to everyone who believes. Within the gospel is the power save, and how will they know? We must be the ones to Speak Up and defend this gospel. Speak up, tell the dying world about who Jesus is and what he has done for us. In the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed through faith.
Apply
On this day, let's use the explosive power of God through our words to build people's knowledge of who Jesus Christ is by SPEAKING UP and spreading the gospel so that it will change a life. Who will you share the gospel with today?
