Kingdom Builders
Scripture: Ephesians 4:29 MSG
Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word is a gift.
Testify:
Down through the years, I've learned that my life no longer belongs to me, and once I became saved and sold out to my Lord, I became employed as a builder in my Lord’s kingdom. My assignment is to the people with my name on their lives: to work my God-given purpose, to establish, to motivate, encourage, and inspire others to reach their full potential in serving the one who is the giver of life. God spoke to me and said this: “Gary, if you want God himself to know you by your name, then watch your mouth and your words, because God is listening.”
Edify:
The passage above emphasizes the importance of practicing self-control by encouraging individuals to consider their words carefully before speaking, ensuring that their communication reflects thoughtfulness and integrity. All corrupt words that proceed out of our mouths bring separation from the Lord’s kingdom and stain the purpose that He has given us, which, again, is to establish us as kingdom builders.
Believers who are attached to the Body of Christ must speak up and deposit life that leads others to action. Each word spoken should be that of a good gift, and we must refrain from unwholesome talk that leads to tearing down and destruction. Believers are instructed and mandated to speak what is fruitful for edifying God’s people by being in tune with our brothers’ and sisters’ needs. This will lead them to the true and living God, so speak up.
Apply:
Age-old metaphors and sayings are good, and most of the time they are inspirational. But, on this day, we need to deeply evaluate ourselves through examining oneself. Ask yourself: Why didn't I speak up when I witnessed that somebody needed me? Or why didn’t I stand in the gap for them at a time when they were not in a position to speak up for themselves? God has given all of us an opportunity to prove whom we belong to—either the workers of darkness or the workers of light. So, I send encouragement to all who choose to be workers of light: Speak up.
