Praise Him In Advance
Scripture: Psalms 69:30 NLT
“Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honor him with thanksgiving.”
Testify:
There have been times that I just didn’t feel like lifting my voice or my hands. But the wisdom God has given me is a great reminder that, no matter the circumstance of my flesh, I will praise Him anyhow. So, I lift up His name with praise and with thanksgiving. Whatever my initial feelings were, they no longer affected me after my praise breaks.
Edify
Often, it is easy to complain about what isn’t going well, what we need to do, and what we haven’t accomplished yet. We lose sight of what is, rather than what is not. Our words become complaints rather than praise to the Most High King. These complaints become an invisible, spiritual muzzle that silences our praise. These same complaints then become praises to the enemy—and he’s the one that should be muzzled. We have to speak up against him. Speak up by praising the Lord with thanksgiving, whether we are in our highs or in our very lows. Speak up against the enemy; resist him, and he will flee. Lean into your praise. Count your blessings. Do not forget to praise Him. Don’t feel like it? Praise Him anyhow. Going through a lot? Praise Him anyhow. Ready to quit? Praise Him anyhow. Keep a thanksgiving praise on your lips, because that’s what the enemy wants to take from us. It’s easier to be blind-sided by the enemy when there is no praise on your lips and heart. One of the secret weapons to any spiritual battle is praise and worship to the Lord. Train your spirit to praise Him anyhow, regardless of your flesh. Verse 31 says not only will this please the Lord, but you will also see God at work and be encouraged.
Apply:
Thank you, Lord, for the breath in my lungs, the new strength You are giving me right now—for covering me, even when I didn’t cover myself; for wrapping Your arms around me, even when I complained time after time. The evidence of Your love will remain in my lungs. If the trees and the birds can praise Him, so will I.
